If you’re not familiar with this man of God, John Piper has been the senior pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, MN–a church he shepherded for over 30 years.  Pastor Piper’s motivation for service is God’s glory.  He founded a ministry called “Desiring God” to spread a passion for God’s glory.  The ministry is known by the phrase propagated by Dr. Piper, “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.”

Pastor Piper built a platform through inspired preaching. His sermons are, first, biblical.  Piper stand as one the best contemporary examples of a pastor-scholar.  He is a theologian with his Ph.D and a former college professor.  He uses his rigorous academic training to study the Biblical text in its original languages.  He researches the cultural context in which the passage was written to discern how the original audience may have interpreted it.

Piper also draws on thousands of years of Christian tradition–particularly the Reformers and America’s greatest theologian, Jonathan Edwards–to inform his expositions.  Finally, Dr. Piper is fearless when it comes to proclaiming the Word of God.  Whether he is talking about sexual ethics, the temptation to be content with middle class comforts, or the reality of Hell John Piper preaches God’s truth.

Here is Piper’s most recent sermon.  The occasion was the Passion 2013 Conference in front of 60,000 students and leaders in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.  You can hear Piper’s passion and sense the Holy Spirit empower his words.  We need more of this kind of preaching.
